AFTER YOUR TRANSFUSION

After you have had your transfusion, we will ask you to stay at least one hour after the blood is given.  The nurse will take your blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.   Ensuring careful observation throughout and after the transfusion will allow us to give you the best possible care.

Reactions to a blood transfusion are uncommon, but they can occur.  The most common problems are fever with or without chills and skin symptoms such as hives or itching. If you experience any problems after leaving the treatment center, call the EMERGENCY ROOM or the laboratory.

REMEMBER THAT MOST TRANSFUSIONS DO NOT CAUSE COMPLICATIONS

If you feel you are having any of the above symptoms, call the emergency room or lab at Major Hospital.  The hospital's phone number is: 392-3211.
