Major OB-GYN General Surgical Instructions
1. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery unless otherwise
instructed by your doctor.
2. Remove all make-up and nail polish before surgery.
3. Report any loose teeth or medication allergies to your nurse and doctor.
4. Report any cold or flu symptoms (sore throat, diarrhea) to your doctor immediately.
5. Leave all valubles at home.
6. Do not wear jewelry (a wedding band is permissible).
7. Bring medications with you in their original container if you are not sure about taking your
medications on the day of surgery.
8. Do not wear hairpins or any metal in your hair.
9. If you wear contacts, leave them at home and wear your glasses.
10. Please let your doctor know if you take aspirin products or blood thinners regularly.
11. If you are a diabetic and taking insulin, please check with your doctor who handles your
blood sugars on what you should do the day of surgery.
12. You will be asked to complerte a health questionaire before surgery. Each hospitalization
requires an updated completed history sheet. Please be prepared to give accurate
information.
13. If you are returning home on the same day as your surgery, you must have a responsible
adult to drive you home. It is advisible to have someone with you for 24 hours after surgery.
14. Please contact our office, 398-0193, as soon as possible if you wish to cancel surgery.
